In 2013, my husband Kim and I traveled as part of a mission team from our church to Kenya to serve alongside the Bells. After two weeks of falling in love with the ministry and babies of MpM, the rest of the team left and Kim and I stayed for a few days longer. The joy I witnessed the day after our team left will forever remain one of my sweetest memories of the trip. I was privileged to witness two couples who were meeting their new children for the very first time. Adoption in Kenya, like in the US, is a lengthy and expensive proposition, and the couples we met had been suffering the cultural shame of not having a child and had waited for years to hold their own baby in their arms.
Since I love photography, Dave asked me to capture a few of those moments. As has been said, “a picture paints a thousand words.” The pure joy of answered prayers is so evident in the eyes of these new parents that my own eyes filled with tears as I watched them meet their child for the very first time. Not only is Mahali pa Maisha a “Place of Life”… when new families are formed, it is also very much a “Place of Joy”….Mahali pa Furaha! Comments are closed.
